Davis has electronically amplified his trumpet in order to produce echo, reverb, phase shifting effects. An electronic amplifier interrupts the sound signal and treats it before it goes to the speaker. The resulting sounds differ greatly from the pure vibratoless trumpet tone that had become Davis's trademark. Despite the use of electronic devices, however, Miles still sounds like "Miles"solitary, sad, and plaintive. This recording illustrates the vast difference between cool and modal jazz and the new world of electric sound.
